Uncool Birthday Haul!

In a bid to manage expectations and to set myself up for supreme success, I managed to get absolutely everything I asked for (and more)!

1. Not one but TWO gallon containers of goldfish crackers.
2. Not one but SIX 2-liters of diet Coke.
3. Additionally, not one but TWO packets of white socks.
4. Bonus: a new packet of underwear.
5. Double bonus: a block of extra sharp cheddar cheese.

March 5 - Uncool Events in History

Being my birthday I decided to do a little research and figure out some uncool things that happened on this very special date in my own personal history. My exhaustive research shows that a lot happened, most of which is very boring:

1995 21st People's Choice Awards: Tim Allen wins
1994 Largest milkshake (1,955 gallons of chocolate-Nelspruit South Africa)
1966 Bob Seagren pole vaults 5.19m indoor world record
1579 Betuwe joins Union of Utrecht

However, I was able to turn up a one cool/uncool historical tidbit:

1770 Boston Massacre, British troops kill 5 in crowd. Crispus Attackus becomes 1st black to die for American freedom

There are some pretty famous March 5 deaths:
1982 John Belushi, comedian (Sat Night Live), dies of drug overdose at 33
1963 Patsy Cline, country singer (Crazy), dies in a plane crash at 30
1953 Josef V Stalin, soviet leader responsible for 11M murders, dies at 73

Interestingly enough, two actors from the 60's show TIME TUNNEL died on March 5th:
1996 Whit Bissell, actor (Time Tunnel), dies at 86
1990 Gary Merrill, actor (Time Tunnel, Huckleberry Finn), dies at 75

I suppose if you were on that show, you can't wait for March 6th to roll around every year.

Birthday Wishlist 2010

With my birthday fast approaching, the family has been asking what I want for my upcoming birthday. To make it simple and to adjust for today's market conditions, here is a pretty good list:

1. Goldfish Crackers (1 gallon container) - I love eating these yummy heroin-filled treats so much that I learned early you can't just eat one. One bag. So many years ago, I switched to the one gallon container. I don't eat nearly as many as I'd like anymore (for lots of reasons), but hey, it's my birfdee.

2. Diet Coke - Quite frankly, any caffeine-filled diet soda will work but since it is my birfdee coming up, I might as well go with my preference. I like diet coke in the can, the bottle or the barrel as long as it is cold.
3. I take several pre-planned naps every year. Fathers Day and the Birfdee. Cold, dark and guilt free (much like my diet coke).
4. Finally, if you truly insist on getting me something of a monetary nature and I seriously doubt there is a line for this, how about a Target gift card. Then I can go to Target, buy some Goldfish crackers, diet coke and consume them before my nap.

Born three years ago today. Tomorrow is the three year anniversary of when we met him and brought him home from the hospital! The most perfect, rottenest, smelliest, cutest kid you'll ever see.

Happy Birthday Number 3 Son!

Son #3 recently had his 9th birthday. I was threatening and threatening that we were going to skip this year and give him two birthday's next year but I'm not completely sure he believed me. Anyway, he went with his cousin, mother and aunt to Knott's Berry Farm and had a blast. Happy Birthday Michael!

Happy Birthday Victoria

I wanted to wish Happy Birthday to the most beautiful girl in the entire world, Victoria Port Rhodes.

We met on March 13, 1992, were married on September 10, 1994, and have been inseparable ever since. We've had a tremendous adventure together so far and I can't imagine doing it with anybody else. She's the perfect wife, the perfect mother, and the best friend I've ever had. The adventure is only beginning...
